Wisconsin beats Minnesota as the land of 10,000 lakes and rivals it with it’s great fishing quality. Wisconsin has some of the best fishing spots right next to your favorite Wisconsin cabin rentals. Though there are thousands of great fishing lakes; we have gathered a list of our favorite 3 lakes and what you can expect from them.

While the Chippewa Flowage did not make the top 3, we did still want to mention this one because of its documented world record Musky reaching 69 pounds! With Hayward being home to the “can’t miss it” Fresh Fishing museum in the shape of  4 1/2 story Musky, you know what this area is known for. The owners will likely have some Musky fishing tips too. With perch steadily growing in population, so is Largemouth Bass and Northern Pike. Largemouth Bass and Northern Pike however are predators and make it difficult for Walleye and Muskellunge to reproduce. Local guides advise in keeping your daily limit of the legal sized Largemouth Bass and Northern Pike to help dwindling populations.

green lakeComing in at #3 is Green Lake. These Green Lake Cabins are on, or near the lake. The lake is 2 miles wide and averages 100 feet in depth but maxes out at 237 feet in depth, making this lake the deepest in Wisconsin. With these facts, it creates some of the best quality fishing in Wisconsin. Green Lake also has some of biggest variety of fishing. Some of the fish include Blue Gill, Brown Trout, Lake Trout (minimum length is 17 inches), Northern Walleye, Perch, Small Bass mouth, Large  Bass Mouth and Muskellunge (minimum length is 40 inches).

castle rock lakeAnother favorite fishing spot coming in at #2 is Castle Rock Lake in Adams County, WI. The 4th largest lake in Wisconsin is known for its sandy bottom, maxing out at 36 feet down. This man-made drainage lake is also home to these popular rod-benders – Walleye, White Bass and Crappies, but you can also find Northern Pike and Perch. Bass fishingComing in at #1 is Geneva Lake, in the city of Lake Geneva, WI. Though these Lake Geneva vacation homes are not on the lake, they are in town, or near town. This lake is moderately clear but that’s not why thousands of people from the Midwest travel to greet these waters. This lake is fed by fresh water springs and is home to absolutely the most prized catch: The Walleye. In fact, it’s not unusual to catch Walleye around the 10 pound mark. We can thank the Cisco here for it’s abundant supply. You can also find Northern Pike around 30 pounds and trout at 15 pounds. You can also find White bass, Rainbow Trout, Perch, Crappie, Bluegill and a heavy Smallmouth Bass population. We hear the best fishing magic happens by Williams Bay and Coleman’s Point around the 10-13 foot range. What’s your favorite fishing spot in Wisconsin?

Why we choose #WI #Cabins and Cottages for a Vacation over Hotels. A Biased View :)

We truly believe that Wisconsin Cabin Rentals offer some of the best memories ever made. Kids seem to enjoy the lakes and wide-open spaces and parents love giving the freedom to them while also experiencing a peaceful setting amongst nature. There is nothing like sitting outside for dinner on a picnic table with great food and a view of the lake or flowing river. Being able to roast marshmallows over the fire and catch fireflies under the stars are moments that last forever. We have compiled a list of reasons why we love renting cabins, cottages, lodges and homes.

  1. Hotels seem to force families or friends in separate living quarters, interrupting quality time and laughs created by spur of the moments that arise.
  2. Hotels have increasingly limited the number of guests in each room, only allowing 4-5 in a room, making you rent out several rooms, which can get expensive.
  3. Pets are part of the family and vacationers want them to come on vacation. Many cabins and cottages are accommodating towards your pets.
  4. Parking can be cumbersome when renting a hotel. Whether you park on the other side or 4 floors down, no one wants to mess with that.
  5. Don’t be suckered into going out to eat for all your meals. That can be costly. It can also mean taking time out of your day to make sure the family is presentable for dinner establishments and let’s face it, kids are always messy.
  6. It’s pretty hard to star gaze through a hotel window. With wide-open spaces and a yard to lay a blanket down, you can’t beat the star-gazing at a cabin.
  7. There’s no quiet hours. We’re not saying let’s get crazy but no one wants to have to whisper to their family down a hallway to get ice when they can talk normally on their way to the kitchen.

Unique features of the Buena Vista Lodge

  1. Size. The property sleeps up to 26 vacationers and has over 10,000 square feet of living space. Buena Vista Lodge can host simple Getaways, family reunions, or corporate retreats. There are nine bedrooms with additional living areas to accommodate the masses!
  2.  Beautiful Lakes. The vacation home is on Pickerel Lake which is about 1,300 acres. Additionally there is a river that smaller boats may use to get to Crane Lake (400 acres). Love to fish? With your stay is a 14’ fishing boat with paddles. There is also a two-person paddle boat, a kayak, and canoe. Or skip the boats for an afternoon and take a swim right off the dock and enjoy a game of sand volleyball. Either way, you’re in for a great time.
  3. Outdoor living space. Take a seat and sip your morning coffee while relaxing on the deck, grill out with the two full size Webber grills, and head to the campfire in the evening. Also enjoy the screened porch which is great for vacations in the spring, summer, and fall.
  4. Games.  In the home there is a pool table, foosball table, shuffleboard, and ping pong table…need I say more?
  5. Hiking Trails. Take a peaceful walk through the various trails that wrap around the 70 acres of land. For the snowmobile lover, there are local trails that start right from the lake.  In the county there is 500 miles of groomed trails and an average of 50 inches of annual snow. In the warmer months, take an ATV out on the nearby Augustyn Springs ATV trail.
  6. Private Island. When you’re at the beach area, there is a path that goes along the shoreline which leads to a bridge. The bridge will lead you over the secluded island. Keep an eye out to see eagles, otters, muskrats, etc.!
