Is it safe to book direct?

The Short answer is yes!
The long answer involves both the property owner/manager and the renter taking responsibility for their half of a secure transaction.
For some time, third party OTAs (online travel agencies) have been propagating the narrative that booking instantly through a third party is the only way for renters to protect their deposit when reserving a vacation home.
In reality, OTAs limit communication between renters and owner/managers prior to payment, increasing the risk of fraudulent listings, misrepresentation and misunderstanding. When you book direct, you have the opportunity to verify identity and ownership before you send a payment.
Remember, a cabin owner or local manager should be able to provide specific answers to questions about the property and location. Not sure what questions to ask? See our infographic on Responsible Booking for safety checks you can perform yourself!
