Hunting for Minnesota sport cabin rentals? Bag one here.

When we write about Minnesota cabin rentals, we always keep in mind that people who rent cabins are also in search of a unique experience beyond the knotty pine walls: Family vacation, fishing getaway, golfing outings, bachelor and bachelorette parties, snowmobiling, off-the-grid adventure – the list is endless. For hunting enthusiasts, Minnesota vacation rentals are a great alternative to hotels because cabins, cottages and lodges put you “in the field”.

P&Y (Pope & Young) is the archer’s Holy Grail. The goal is to bag a buck big enough to qualify for the P & Y Club’s record book. In Minnesota, there are certain areas that produce these ‘book bucks’ every year. As luck would have it, RentMinnesotaCabins.com has several rentals that put archer’s minutes from their tree stands along the notheast-to-central axis.

The state is known as the “Land of 10,000 Lakes” and RentMinnesotaCabins.com has cabins and cottages on many of them. Another reason to stop by the website is that we offer a book direct service which guarantees the lowest rental rate every time. That’s right, you get to speak with area experts who can give you tips on hunting opportunities for all game:

Small-game hunting: Ruffed grouse, squirrels, rabbits, duck, pheasants, Canada goose, turkey

Hunting is a special bonding experience, and your private Minnesota cabin brings that experience inside too. We think you’ll agree, young people need to get outside more and experience what nature has to offer. There’s no APP that can duplicate these moments & memories “in the field”.

Numerous hunting seasons in the state begin in September – hunters must meet the state’s license requirements before taking to the fields and woods.

SPRING: Coming Soon to Michigan

SPRING: Coming Soon to Michigan

It’s time for Spring Cleaning! And by “cleaning,” I mean you should pack up and clear out to spend a week at someone else’s professionally cleaned and tchotchke-free vacation home. Spring is a great time to clean out the corners, but it’s an even better time to clear your mind — and what better way than to vacate your everyday life and vacation in one of Michigan’s many beautiful and relaxing rental homes.

Spring also happens to be a time when the sleepy towns of winter wake up and start thinking about throwing a festival. Take a look at some of these fun Michigan springtime events and the stunning vacation homes that surround them:

What’s happening in March?

March is a fickle time in Michigan, bringing weather that passes freely between rain and snow — but that doesn’t stop the state at large from having a grand old time. Winter festivities continue into March in Michigan, with fun community events like fatbiking challenges and ice fishing competitions. March is also the beginning of the racing season, and many athletes like to kick it off with a green-decked shamrock shuffle. Check out these can’t-miss Michigan festivals and events in March:

— St. Patrick’s Day —

(1) On March 10, Highland, Mich., hosts the annual Highland Celtic Festival in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. The festival is a whirl of live entertainments, including traditional music and dance, magic shows and street theater. Local restaurants and pubs collaborate on a feast of corn beef and cabbage with soda bread and green beer. Proceeds from the festival go to the Church of the Holy Spirit.

(2) On March 17, Marquette, Mich., is hosting a St. Patrick’s Street Shut Down — a community-wide street party featuring dueling pianos, a mechanical bull, a photo booth and a cash bar.

— Daylight Savings Time —

On March 16, Champion, Mich., hosts its annual Lantern Lit Snowshoe Trail event. This family-frien

dly, self-guided snow trek ventures down a 1.25-mile wooded trail lit by lantern light. The trail circles back to the entry point, where a camp fire and warm treats await participants.

Why is everyone always so tired on April first?

Because they’ve just finished a long, 31-day March!

What are we celebrating in April?

April is a month for traditions, whether that be the annual prank contest you started with your best frie

nd in the seventh grade, or the less hostile, family Easter egg hunt — both of which we know you’ve continued to participate in long past the point where it aged out of appropriateness. Oh, well. We don’t worry about appearances at the cabin! Book a large-group cabin in April and give family and friends room to spread out while enjoying the traditional merry-making. But remember: pranking your rental owner or manager is rarely appreciated and may result in fines.

— Easter —

On April first, Kalamazoo, Mich., is the place to be this year for the iconic staple of spring: the Easter Sunday Brunch! Kalamazoo one-ups the neighbors by holding their annual brunch in the historical Henderson Castle. This notorious mid-morning feast consists of seven courses!

—April Fool’s —

On April 6, Ann Arbor, Mich., commemorates April Fool’s with an evening kickoff of its annual weekend FoolMoon event. The community and visitors gather to celebrate the long-awaited turn of the seasons with light and laser spectacles, a D.J. and beer tent, and live dance performances.

— Does wine even need a reason? —

On April 19, the Artisan Market officially opens in Baroda, Mich. Held in the tasting room at Dablon Vineyards, the Artisan Market is made up of a collection of local artists, craftsmen, and vendors and cultivators of all kinds. This local pop-up market enjoys a view of the Dablon

estate. Visitors can indulge in complimentary hors d’oeuvres while they peruse unique goods from southwest Michigan and northern Indiana.

If April showers bring May flowers, what do Mayflowers bring?

Pilgrims!

What’s on the horizon in May?

May is the real pinna

cle of spring in Michigan, when the temperature tends to stay between 50 and 70 degrees, and the wildflowers are thick on the side of the road. May is a beautiful time to visit the Midwest, take a scenic drive down back-country roads and enjoy a picnic under bright sun and cool breeze.

May is also a big month for holidays! Between Mother’s Day (an excellent time to gather the family in a spacious, relaxing vacation home and surround Mom with the love and attention she deserves) and Memorial Day (widely acknowledged as the official start to peak vacation season), there is a slew of lesser-known reasons to fête, including Mother Goose Day, Garden Meditation Day, National Windmill Day and Learn About Composting Day — not to mention that May is National Bike Month AND National Barbecue Month. Here’s how Michigan celebrates May:

— May Day —

On May 5, visitors can Learn to Identify Spring Flowers in Muskegon, Mich., at a family-friendly event co-taught by a park naturalist and a nature photographer. This hands-on skills seminar covers basic plant identification using photographic examples, then escorts participants outdoors to flex their new knowledge on a guided nature hike in areas well-populated with native wildflowers. Coffee and a light breakfast are provided at sign-in, with a luncheon served at noon. Participants will also receive a handy field guide.

— Mother’s Day —

Celebrate Mom this year by training for a race and keeping pace! On May 12, Grand Rapids is hosting the annual Fifth Third River Bank Run downtown. The day’s events include a 5k run, a 10k run, a 25k hand-cycle race, a 25k wheelchair race, a 25k foot race and a 5k community walk.

Michigan ‘Fitcations’ Worth Traveling For

2017 has come to an end, and with it any illusions we were still cherishing about checking off the ambitious New-Year’s resolutions we all pinned to our “vision boards” last January. The good news, for those of us who will be crossing off just one word from that resolutions list — “2017” — there is hope for next year. Some of the most widely aspired-to resolutions include fitness challenges and travel, which just happen to be a killer duo. And while trapping yourself into going to the gym by committing to a year-long membership may work for some, others would rather wave goodbye to the monthly fees than spend their early mornings and evenings in a sweaty, brightly-lit workout box. This year, put your holiday bonus to great use by planning your dream fitcation — book a cabin, register for an outdoor adventure race and start training. Let’s all reach for a resolutions win in 2018!

running bridge

To help you in your quest, here is a list of unique Michigan fitness challenges throughout the year — and unique Michigan lodging to match:

January: Michigan Adventure Race

This 6-mile, triathlon-style race is the largest outdoor winter adventure race in the U.S.! A mix of snowshoeing, fatbiking and paddling the icy waters through Manistee National Forest, the Michigan Adventure Race presents a variety of challenges, not the least of which is the weather! Participants are provided with the cold-weather equipment and plenty of motivational prizes to get them across the finish line.

Find out more and register at http://miadventurerace.com/

February: Ground Hog Marathon

Celebrate Ground Hog’s Day in 2018 by paying a visit to Grand Rapid’s local celebrity Augustus T. Groundhog. This cold-weather running event consists of a full marathon, a half marathon and a “Moonlight 1/6 Marathon” the night before. Much like the eponymous movie, the Ground Hog Marathon certified course repeats itself — up to six times, if you are running the full! And regardless of whether Augustus sees his shadow, there is likely to be snow on the course.

March: Clare Irish Festival Road Race

This jolly green St. Patty’s Day road race features a 5K run, 10K run and a 2-mile walk. Racers begin and end at Clare High School, and will receive a t-shirt and a free pancake breakfast in the school cafeteria. Following the competitive races, kids under 13 will be invited to participate in a Fun Run. Bring the whole family and let your Irish roots run wild!

See race details and registration info at: https://runsignup.com/Race/MI/Clare/clareroadrace

April: April Fool’s Day Twinkie Run

Start the day off right with coffee and Twinkies, then head out for a 5k! This ironic foodie run is a popular bucket-list item, with it’s amusing t-shirts and other race paraphernalia and its infamous finish-line (and course station) goodies: grilled Twinkies and chocolate. The race coincides with Ann Arbor’s annual homemade Twinkie contest, with proceeds from the collaborative event going to support ALS research.

Keep an eye out for updated 2018 information at: http://www.activeagainstals.org/events/twinkie-run/

May: Coast to Coast Gravel Grinder

The Gravel Grinder chases the sun across the great state of Michigan, with racers starting at dawn at Saginaw Bay on the coast of Lake Huron and peddling a furious 210 miles along scenic gravel backroads. This race is routed through farm and field and between the trees of the Manistee National Forest, with the finish line staked out on the sandy beach of Lake Michigan at Ludington. Traverse the lower peninsula in one fell swoop with this epic lake-to-lake challenge.

June: Michigan Adventure Race — Epic Edition

In early June, the Caberfae Peaks Resort just outside of Cadillac, MI, hosts the Caberfae Epic Edition, a co-ed outdoor adventure race that combines paddling, orienteering and gravel or two-track biking through the Manistee National Forest. Divisions include one, two, three and four-person race groups, with racers eligible for raffle prizes. You will also be rewarded for you physical activity with an enormous wedding-style buffet!

July: Greatest Fourth in the North

Lake City celebrates the nation’s independence with an annual 5k run, 10k run, 5k walk and Fun Run, followed by refreshments and a Fourth of July parade down main street. The course begins at downtown’s City Park, then heads out of town to traverse the surrounding woodlands, running alongside Lake Missaukee. Trophies are awarded to age-group first through third-place finishers — in case the sense of accomplishment just isn’t enough to motivate you.

This race is geared toward beginner competitors, with a casual atmosphere and space for groups to ride together. The course covers 26 miles and circles around the Deep Lake Trail at Yankee Springs. Some of the proceeds from racing fees goes to support the West Michigan Mountain Biking Alliance to build and maintain the local trails.

October: Headless Horseman 5K

Here’s a spooky option for Halloween! The town of Howell, MI, makes great use of its punny name by celebrating Halloween weekend with the annual Legend of Sleepy Howell costume event, followed by the Headless Horseman 5 and 10k races and the Monster Mile, as well as trick-or-treating, hayrides and more.

See race-day details here: http://www.sleepyhowell.com/

November: Black Toenail Friday Half

Michigan’s Commerce Township dredges up some unsightly imagery with this play on words. The “Black Toenail Friday Half” encourages participants to skip the shopping marathon the day after thanksgiving and spend your calories on the trails. This half marathon is hosted by the Proud Lake Recreation Area, with a course set through the scenic trails and around the lake. This race also takes advantage of the cooler weather to offer racers a later-than-normal start time. The Black Toenail Friday Half kicks off at 11:00 a.m., so you can have your turkey coma and still make the starting gun.

Best of all, participants can check a race off their resolution bucket list — just in time to start a new list!

In the kitchen there are 2 refrigerators, a log table table big enough to seat at least 10 adults! A resort means resort amenities: A game area, small convenience store with everything from bait to treats. You can pull your sled right up to your cabin door! Nearby Buena Vista Ski Area is an excellent place to spend a day for the skiing fanatic.
